In March, we spoke with essayist Ellen O’Connell Whittet in her hometown of Santa Barbara about her debut memoir, What You Become in Flight, about how a debilitating injury during a ballet rehearsal set her on a different path. During our conversation we talked about the relationship between dance and writing, dancing to Lizzo, and Ellen’s many literary influences. Listen to the full episode below.

Writing Exercise
Write about waiting. Whether you are waiting for the bus, or a meal to arrive, or for something to begin or be over. Maybe you are waiting for clarity or change or news or inspiration or for some decision. Write about that suspension between knowing and not knowing. It can be something emotional or physical or spiritual–something you know will materialize, but you are waiting for it. It could also be something really practical or tangible that you are waiting for. And I want to know if the result was worth the wait.
